Gillian’s integrative Massage Therapy approach is very effective in the treatment of Diabetes as an auto-immune condition. Gillian has researched early onset Diabetes for children, adults, and parents in her practice. The ‘key signs’ to watch in children are nutritional deficiencies, ‘emotional eating disorder’, being overweight, addicted to junk food, addicted to sitting at computers, eczema, psoriasis, acne, gas, bloating, sinusitis, bronchitis, asthma, insomnia, conjunctivitis, poor posture, lack of exercise, burning body pain, frequent injuries/surgeries, frequent urination, anxiety, and depression.

Type 1 Diabetes is brought on by chronic stress, inflammation, lymphatic congestion, vascular constriction, gut permeability. Excessive intake of carbohydrates, gluten, wheat, sugar, dairy, alcohol, and caffeine increase blood glucose and contribute to nutritional deficiencies. Excessive glucose pulls fluid from interstitial tissue which is then secreted through excessive urination from the kidneys. Untreated type 1 Diabetes causes breakdown of fats, tissue health, muscle fibers, lymph vessels, and vasculature.

Type 2 Diabetes creates a decrease in blood glucose levels which sets off a hormonal secretion of epinephrine, glucagon, and human growth hormone. As a result, there is an increase in anxiety, sweating, tremor, increased heart rate, hunger, brain fog, and muscle weakness.

Gillian helps clients understand how self-care is key in treating Diabetes. She refers to Naturopathic Doctors for Herbal Supplementation, Acupuncture, Breath, Blood, Stool, Metabolic, Candidiasis and Parasite Testing; Registered Holistic Nutritionalists for vitamin, mineral, and anti-oxidant Supplementation; Organic raw/cooked Recipes, Ketogenic Diet, Food Combining, Digestive enzymes/Probiotics, Pure alkalize water.
