As a RMT I have learned that the lymphatic system is a powerful detoxification system! The lymph system drains your cells which become overloaded especially by waste and toxic load from the digestive system. The lymph system does not have a pump like the cardiovascular or digestive systems. As a result, the lymph system can easily become sluggish and backed up! This kind of lymphatic congestion or stagnation of your internal waters impacts all other systems in the body!
The lymph system therefore depends upon manual lymph drainage, contraction of skeletal muscles, and/or force of respiration to flush toxins and move lymphatic fluid to the lymph nodes. Inside the lymph nodes the toxins can be filtered by the immune cells. When this does not happen, the lymph gets stuck and pools in the lower body. Especially if a person is sedentary or doing a lot of computer work then the feet and ankles become swollen and the tissue hardens!
I encourage all my clients to find ways to stimulate their lymphatic system through the following treatment and/or exercises in addition to regular monthly Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) treatments; Rebounding (trampolining), Jumping rope, Jumping up and down on the ground, Swimming in Salt Water, Yoga, Walking, Diaphragmatic Breathing, Dry brushing & Oiling and also drinking Echinacea, Red Clover, Fennel Tea or Lymphatic System Booster Tea by Kavata Kithome!
Lymphatic System Booster Tea! By Kavata Kithome
- ½ TSP Cumin Seeds
- ½ TSP Coriander Seeds
- ½ TSP Fennel Seeds
- ½ TSP Fenugreek seeds (optional)
- ½ – 1 inch peeled fresh Ginger
Instructions: boil 4-5 cups of pure water in a pot and add the ingredients. Let boil for 5-10 minutes, strain the seeds and pour into a thermos and drink all day! You will experience increased urination of the toxins and inflammatories from your body. Enjoy the gentle detox!
